June 11th we met at the top of Zelzah. There were 5 cars present but only 4 of us willing to drive down the windy course. The locals saw us gathering our forces and gave positive comments: "you're going down the hill huh?" said a older early morning walker. She had a smile on her face, she could see we were out for fun at this earily hour. I remember thinking that the course was way to sketchy and how could I pull off driving while having one hand on my scrub brake. Once we lined up however, and we started rolling down the course I abandoned all thoughts of slowing my speed as the race was on! There was much shit talking in the previous month, so I felt that I had to claim a victory to squelch all the arm-chair racing that was going on. Arron and Evil Ed's car jumped ahead from the start but by turn 2 they had begun to break and take some turns too wide. Only by holding on to the steering wheel was I able to stay in my car as the G's in the turns were pretty severe. By the end of turn 2 Paul "the carcass" had pulled ahead of the pack and charged the dip. The dip is a rounded gutter that one can rive up or down, slowly. Striking this obstacle at 30+ mph rattled one's cage for sure. The trick was not to lose control after the dip, there was a shipping container to the right and the straight away laid ahead, the final stretch for the victory. The Carcass kept his hold on the lead and secured the victory. The next heat we took a left from the finish line and bombed some residentials. The dip proved to be a bit hard on the cars as axels bent and bits of metal flew off of Tick's car. Everyone came out in good health, some minor damage to some of the cars, smiles all around.
