It was a cold morning as the racers gathered in the pre-dawn on December 9th for the final race of the season. The course was a new course that was a twisty mountain road that was ill maintained, full of ruts, gravel, and water filled potholes. It had rained the previous two days filling the course with mud. 38 racers lined up to face the challenge of the hill we called Sweet n’ Short. The road was narrow so we had rows of cars only 4 wide. To the left, a drop off the hill full of brush and trees to the right a gravel covered hillside, the road itself was not much better. The rough conditions wreaked havoc on the races and they fought for control. Cars failed, drivers failed, cameras fell off their mounts, tires fell off cars, bits of cars littered the course. The second heat only 12 or so managed to make it back up the hill for another go; a tough course. The wet hillside made braking difficult, cars with scrub brakes had smoke pouring off their wheels as they rode their brake levers hard as they could. The biggest race yet, talk in the wings of others wanting in on the action, expect bigger races in the future.
