August 12th Re-Cap
Race date: August 12th 2007. New course, 28 drivers, a quiet suburban neighborhood, total chaos. Home Invasion when tested seemed to be a low-key course, not too fast; the curves would be a moderate challenge, but nothing that could not be done again and again. We tested with one car, not 28. With 28 cars the dynamic of the course was very different. As the racers entered turn two, the fastest cars took the turn too wide and collided with the curb. This collision set up a chain reaction that sent close to a dozen cars spinning out of control and colliding into each other. One driver lost a wheel and did a barrel roll into the corner houses perfectly groomed lawn. Several other drivers lost control of their cars and flipped over as they screeched sideways to a halt. The smell of burnt rubber was prevalent in this turn to accompany the cacophony of the massive pile up in turn two. Several cars did manage to weave though this mess and roll down the rest of the hill for the completion of the SFVISBF's 6th race this season.
