June 10th Re-Cap
Race day: June 10th, 2007. Gathering at the local Winchell's close to the course, the excitement built up as the racers and spectators gather in the early morning. We ascended in mass, racers going up to the course first and then a ten-minute gap for spectators. After the set up at the top of Twist n Shout we had 24 racers total, two more than last time and the biggest SFVISBF race thus far. Once the first run was completed, only 12 cars were back up at the top for the second heat. Several cars broke upon "The Dip of Death" with steering columns shattering off in drivers hands, and wheels becoming warped or shearing off the cars bouncing down the course. This feature claimed a few racers, several more fell pray to the hard left. The fastest cars lost control in the turn and the rest of the pack smashed into them at full speed. Cars were bent and twisted, driver hurled from their soapbox racers. Surprisingly, no was seriously hurt. A few drivers dragged their cars to the finish to get their race-completed stickers. JD (1) lost his brakes and yelled "NO BRAKES!!!" as we all dove for cover; he barreled up the length of some slumbering suburbanite's lawn. Truly, the toughest course in the SFVISBF retinue.
